I AM SUPER EXCITED TO INTRODUCE ONE OUR NEWEST MEMBERS OF OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM, MICHELLE MYERS. SHE IS OUR NEW SPORTS TOURISM MANAGER. THIS IS A POSITION THAT WE INTENTION A LEGAL REORGANIZED OUR PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT FOR BECAUSE OF THE VALUE THAT WE FIND IN FOCUSING ON SPORTS TOURISM AND THE ROLE THAT IT PLAYS IN OUR OVERALL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS. MICHELLE IS NATIVE AND COMES TO US FOR OVER 24 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN MARKETING.

EARNED HER DEGREE IN BUSINESS MARKETING FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND AND HAS BEEN HELPING BUSINESSES BUILD THEIR BRANDS BY IDENTIFYING AND PROMOTING STRENGTH.

WORKPLACE SAFETY BRIAN HANEY. ROBERT WELLER WITH BUILDING SERVICES. WE HAVE TIFFANY TODA AND LISA LESA K A NEW PROGRAM, EMPLOYEES HELPING EMPLOYEES COMMITTEE WHICH I WILL HIT ON IN A LITTLE BY THE.

WE HAD BRANDY DAVIS WITH THE VICTORIA FIRE DEPARTMENT.

CHIEF MARTIN AND RECENTLY RETIRED CHIEF HUNT OTHER IS HERE COMING OUT OF RETIREMENT. HE LET HIS FACIAL HAIR GROW.

HE IS ALREADY BREAKING RULES.

BUT I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW ALL OF THESE INDIVIDUALS BECAUSE THEY LITERALLY PLAYED A CRITICAL ROLE IN THIS.

WE APPRECIATE EVERY ONE THAT SERVES ON THIS INTERNAL TEAM.

HELPING ALL EMPLOYEES IS AN EX-PREVTION HOW OUR EMPLOYEES CARE OF ONE ANOTHER. .

IT TRULY WAS AN HONOR FOR US AND FOR ME TO WITNESS OUR EMPLOYEES COMING TOGETHER AT THIS TIME OF NEED.

AT THE END OF THE DAY WE ARE A FAMILY AT THE CITY OF VICTORIA AND IT WAS PROVEN WITH THE LEVEL OF EMPHASIS AND WORK AND PASSION THAT ALL OF THESE INDIVIDUALS BROUGHT FORWARD.

WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT OUR OPERATION WAS LIMITED -- WASN'T LIMITED BY THE PANDEMIC AND NO SMALL PART DUE TO THEIR HARD EFFORTS AND WOULD LIKE FOR THEM ALL TO GIVE THEM A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE. [APPLAUSE] YEAH. THAT'S RIGHT.

ONE INSTANCE THAT I AM AWARE OF SAICHBD EMPLOYEE'S LIFE BATTLING WITH COVID. THEY STEPPED UP TO HELP THAT EMPLOYEE. AND WE WANT TO THANK THEM WITH A LITTLE SURPRISE GIFT HERE TO EXPRESS TOKEN OF APPRECIATION.

THIS INTERNAL TEAM IS GROWING AND THIS TEAM WILL REMAIN WITH US AND CONTINUE TO PLAY A CRITICAL PART OF HELPING EACH OTHER OUT. AS I SAID, WE ARE A FAMILY HERE IN THE CITY OF VICTORIA. WE PROVIDED CARE PACKAGES OF EMPLOYEES DEALING WITH THE PANDEMIC BUT SINCE THEN THE COMMITTEE HAS BACK-TO-SCHOOL DRIVE WITH EMPLOYEES DONATE SUPPLIES AND OFFER THE OPPORTUNITY FOR EMPLOYEES TO COME IN AND GET THE SUPPLIES THAT THEY NEED FOR THEIR FAMILIES AND THIS COMMITTEE CONTINUES TO COME UP WITH CREATIVE WAYS TO HELP EACH OTHER AND I AM EXTREMELY PROUD AS THE CITY VICTORIA MANAGER AND THE ENTIRE GROUP TO SHARE THIS

MISS HILBRECHT. >> THE NEXT ITEM IS PROCLAMATION FOR CHILD ABUSE MONTH. WHEREAS CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT EFFECTS EVERY SEGMENT OF OUR COMMUNITY RESULTING IN 2,000 REPORTS OF ABUSE AND NEGLECT IN VICTORIA COUNTY SINCE 2021 AND FINDING SOLUTIONS REQUIRE INPUT FROM EVERYONE.

AND HELPING OUR CHILDREN AND CHILD ABUSE CAN HAVE LONG-TERM PHYSICAL EFFECTS THAT HAVE LONG-STANDING AND ELIMINATE RISK AND PROMOTE THE SOCIAL, DEVELOPMENT WELL BEING OF CHILDREN. WHEREAS EFFECTIVE CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION ACTIVITIES SUCCEED BECAUSE OF THE PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN CHILD WELFARE PROFESSIONALS, EDUCATION, HEALTH, COMMUNITY AND FAITH-BASED, BUSINESSES, LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AND FAMILIES.

WHEREAS COMMUNITIES MUST MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO PROMOTE PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES THAT CREATE STRONG AND THRIVING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. AND WHEREAS, WE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE MUST WORK TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY TO INCREASE THE AWARENESS OF CHILD ABUSE AND CONTRIBUTE TO PROMOTE THE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL WELL BEING OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN A SAFE, STABLE AND NURTURING ENVIRONMENTS.

PREVENTION REMAINS THE BEST DEFENSE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILY, THEREFORE, MARE MARE DOES HEARBY PROCLAIM APRIL 2022 AS NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION MONTH IN THE CITY OF VICTORIA. [APPLAUSE]

AS YOU KNOW COUNCILMAN LOFFGREN WOULD LIKE TO REDUCE THE RESIDENTIAL SPEED LIMITS FROM 30 MILES PER HOUR TO 25 MILES PER HOUR. THE PREMISE IS THAT LOWERING THE SPEED LIMIT WILL IMPROVE PUBLIC SAFETY IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN. AND ALSO REDUCE FATALITIES.

SO WHAT STAFF IS SUGGESTING BEFORE MOVING FORWARD IS THAT WE WOULD GATHER SOME DATA, BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE DATA BEFORE MAKING DECISIONS. WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO DO IS FIRST IDENTIFY THE SUBDIVISIONS OR NEIGHBORHOODS WHERE WE HAVE SPEEDING. WHERE SPEEDING IS AN ISSUE.

AND ALSO, WHERE WE WOULD ESSENTIALLY IMPLEMENT THIS NEW POLICY. SO WE NEED TO FIRST IDENTIFY THE NEIGHBORHOODS WHERE WE HAVE SPEEDING AND OUR CITY ENGINEER WILL HELP US DO THAT. SO WE CAN CONCEIVABLY COME BACK TO YOU WITH A REPORT PROBABLY IN EARLY MAY BASED ON THE DATA THAT WE HAVE GATHERED.
